Intaka Island Bird Sanctuary

Providing a green lung in the heart of Century City is Intaka Island, an award winning 16ha wetlands conservation area that is rich in birdlife and indigenous plants. Formerly known as the Blouvlei, Intaka Island comprises 8ha of ecologically sensitive ephemeral (seasonal) pans, that are among the last remaining of their kind, and 8ha of reconstructed wetlands that serve to cleanse the water in the 6km of navigable canals that link the different elements of Century City.
The reconstructed portion of Intaka Island has been opened up to the public on a controlled basis and is becoming an important eco-tourism destination. Click here for further details.

Ratanga Junction

Ten minutes from the city centre, and situated with magnificent views of Devil’s Peak and Table Mountain from most holes, the Rondebosch Golf Club is a popular choice for locals and foreign visitors. The river which winds through the course provides challenges to the players and is home to a variety of bird life. This course is essentially a return to the original concept of golf, being very much a parkland-type of golf course from which the game evolved. Some tight driving holes, compounded by undulating fairways and the ever-present threat of strong winds provide some interesting play. The course has been changed recently and some new features have been added making the course a good test of golf for all levels.
